MEET DR RUBIN
I didn’t dream of being a doctor. I wanted to be a writer or a dolphin trainer, believe it or not. I was born with one leg shorter than the other, requiring frequent medical care and multiple surgeries in childhood, and these experiences surely piqued my interest in medicine. After a year of post-college volunteer work in Israel, I realized that my inability to handle vomit should not hold me back from a career as a physician. Seriously, though, I think that year abroad gave me the confidence I needed to pursue a career in medicine.
The first 18 years of my career were spent as a general pediatrician. During my 13 years as an outpatient pediatrician, I developed an interest in breastfeeding, and earned my certification as a lactation consultant in 2019. I then went on to pursue additional training in Breastfeeding Medicine, which became a brand new board-certified medical specialty in 2023. I began practicing Breastfeeding Medicine in 2018 when I founded the Loyola Center for Breastfeeding Medicine. Eventually, I became disillusioned by the traditional “medical system,” frustrated by the limits on my time spent with my patients.
In 2021, I ventured out of the insurance-based medical system and opened In Touch Pediatrics and Lactation, PLLC, in order to provide pediatric and lactation care in a personalized, compassionate, and patient-centered way, and I have never looked back!
I live in River Forest with my husband, two young children, and our feisty dog. When I'm not enjoying the fun of seeing patients and running my practice, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, pretending to be a foodie, and traveling!
